Courage!!!

Courage is a word with powerful meaning. The opposite of courage is fear. There are situations in our lives that cause us to have courage in life, not only for us but for others.

I am the chaplain for the local fire department. I can do pretty much anything with the department except for going in to a burning building. The reason I cannot go into a building that is on fire is because I am not trained to do that. The thought of doing that actually causes me fear.

The firefighters though are very courageous, in fact when they hear that there is a fire to fight it gets their adrenaline going. They live to fight fires. They do not have fear, they have respect! I think they are courageous, they say it is what they are trained to do. But for all those firefighters who are prepared to enter the burning building, it took time to get to that place. They had to work out that courage "muscle", so to speak.

I have an injured right shoulder and I no longer have even 25% of the strength I once had. Why?Because I am no longer able to train those muscles. If you don't train yourself to have courage in life to stand up for what is right, it is harder to do it. Conversely the more you stand up for something and have the courage to do it, the more you can stand. Sounds elementary but it is very much truth.

What is it that He is asking you to stand up for? Maybe it is for the less fortunate. Maybe it is against those who want to make the gospel message unimportant. Maybe it is for the teen being harassed and bullied. Maybe it is for your kids.

You get the point. God told us to be strong and courageous and take steps of faith as He directs. How is your courage?
