Conversations on the bus

One of the Olympic torch bearers

Our chaplains are being housed in a church in Surrey which is about a 40 minute commute into downtown Vancouver. It can be a long trip if you have nothing to do but stare at the road, but we are able to get into some great conversations.

Last night on the way back, the bus was full so someone needed to stand, and I decided that I should do it. I stood up and let an older person sit down and this opened up opportunities to chat with lots of people.

I had an at length conversation with two ladies. One was from Australia and the other was from Surrey. The lady from Surrey is not a church attender, she was until she married, but her husband is not an attender so she stopped going. I asked her if she was interested in going to church and she said that she would in the future.

I reminded her that we are not guaranteed tomorrow and reminded her of the luger that lost his life here in the Olympics. I think it struck a cord with her.

She asked what we were doing and it explained it to her. She asked if we were ever going to Haiti and I told her that we were already there as an organization. She then asked if she could send teddy bears to Haiti with us and I told her we could make that happen. She then asked if we ever needed help in Haiti because she had skills in the area of organization and reconstruction.

I was able to share God's love with this lady for 40 minutes. I am trusting that our "divine appointment" will have an eternal impact on her and her family. Wouldn't it be amazing to see a non Christian be raised to be involved in Kingdom work.
